2011 Q&A Campaign! Ask Questions!

It’s time for another Question and Answer round! (Update and Re-Re-post). Please feel free to ask any and all questions. And while that statement could invite some…. colorful and “creative” questions, it doesn’t mean you’ll get the precise answer. But all questions will get a response.

In the past, I have done “campaigns” to get more questions from readers, for me to answer! Some of which have been answered in comic form, as well. Recently I have fixed up the FAQ section of PSI (it was still on the OLD site), so please check out the past FAQs. The 2007 answers have been updated a bit, so please check it out again!

Now I want some more questions! You can ask me ANYTHING! … of course, I will not directly answer questions that are future spoilers, but I promise to respond to every question in some way… just don’t ask more than 10 questions. Some questions may receive comic answers.

You may e-mail me, or ask through a comment here!

Q:Given how often crossovers happen in the main comic, does the world of PSI have a high webcomic awareness rate? Also, what fraction of the background characters would have some kind of previous experience with crossovers?

Hello Bucky! I hope the following more than answers your question! Feel free to ask again, if not!

To answer your question, the “World” of PSI does NOT have Webcomic Awareness… just a few of it’s characters do… The problem with PSI is that, in the early stages, I was still developing things, and somewhere along the line, the comic *changed*… part of what I am trying to do now, is to completely avoid ANY Webcomic Awareness in the story (if possible).

Of course, Scale and Jenny Everywhere were brought in SPECIFICALLY as from other comics and are VERY webcomic aware (it’s all part of the Crossover Wars). These days, if I can, I try to pass them as from “other worlds”… but really, for them, I try to only bring them in if only Webcomic Aware characters are only present. .. all at least for the “Main Archive”. Otherwise anything goes for the “Side Strips”.

Fes and Ernst were originally the only Webcomic Aware characters…. Ford *kinda* was too, but then fully was during The Crossover Wars when he met “Fesworks”… aka “me, the creator”. “I” will never again appear in the main archive. I’m trying to keep the main archive/story as free of 4th wall breaking, and webcomic awareness as possible.

Nemi WASN’T originally WCA (webcomic aware), but the plan was always to make her that way. There are a couple other characters that might be WCA in the future, but probably not in the main archive/story…

In the future, when I do crossovers and cameos (that result from comic jumping or such), they will be passed off as “dimensions”, and not “comics”. I can’t really undo the past without redoing it, so I’m going for the constant molding as I progress. Scale will likely appear again… at least in the SIDE STRIPS. Same for Jenny. If they appear in the main comic storyline, they will not make references to the 4th wall or act WCA.

(When I go about rewriting the comic to make a print version, the Crossover Wars will be scrapped completely, but I *might* still have some world jumping, but it will likely be with Jenny, instead of Scale.)

As far as the background characters… well I’ll just make a rundown of the listed Cast page:

    > I’m trying to keep the main archive/story as free of 4th wall breaking, and webcomic awareness as possible.

Ha. What was your line? Break the 4th wall enough, and something else will break?

How will you handle the animated ones in print?

  6. fesworks says:
    September 6, 2010 at 8:49 pm

Instead of “comics” they are “worlds” or other dimensions. Also, not breaking the 4th wall in conversation (or looking at the readers) in the main story comics. “Me” not entering the main story comics… any more… “I” was never meant to enter the comic in the story… but The Crossover Wars kinda took over, and my muse and characters ganged up on me… as PSI is a character driven comic… I had to succumb.

As far as animated comics… I’ve actually YET to print PSI in any form. There are a few reasons:

1 – most of the archive does not exist in printable quality files.
    2 – inconsistent comic sizes.
3 – too many uses of other people’s properties.
4 – there’s no demand for me to print this comic.
5 – PSI is primarily a WEBcomic… Webcomic Awareness and related plot points, don’t make sense in a printed form.

However, once the comic’s layout turned into a proper comic format, I should have high-res files for all of that. However, I still have the problem of multiple characters that I don’t own in them. I’m certain I could get permissions for many, but again, a print version would be intended to get people into the comic as well. Printing right now likely won’t make any sales. There’s too much background missing.

When I get closer to the planned “soft reboot”, I may design some extra strips, and incorporate some of the strips into something I can use for a Print-on-Demand book. Just to have something designed as an introduction of sorts…. that and I also have some ideas for print-only stories that would stand-alone.

… oh, to answer the question, if I ever have animated comics again, they would be printed in broken down stages, most likely.

Alright, what was the actual dialog in the bathroom?

  9. fesworks says:
    January 6, 2011 at 3:21 pm

hehehe, that is one of those things I’m not planning on revealing, because it originally was planned to not to have any dialog on purpose, and just the moments were planned. However, when drawing it, I did come up with dialog. But I think it’s better unrevealed.

    >> What do Fes and Ernst DO, exactly? For a living, I mean. They’ve got to pay the rent somehow…
    >They work at a Sabbot Inn as housekeepers.

Ohh, given how much time they haven’t been working …
    Have they been fired? :-)

So re-reading … gaaahhh. Ok, the point where I thought Fes was responsible for the “death” of Nemi’s friend was back in #85 — clumsy Fes let Kerr out. But since everyone was already dead anyways (207), so, … Yea, 208 she even blames Fes directly.

Oh: Some of the comics at Fur Brigade are no longer available. Do you have copies that you could rehost?

ahh. 23 refers to 24a, not 24. I cannot find any working link after 30. “last” goes to a broken image link.

And there’s a lot of “To be filled in later” comics.

  11. Keybounce says:
    February 20, 2011 at 3:55 pm

    Ohh, re-reading. Back at 354 …

So whose side is Bodil actually on?

Ahh. Gopher-man is local-death. He and Ford work for the same super-natural entity (Goddess Diana). They want to find the armor, and only Nemi can find it. But Bodil might steal it.

Lana, from Magical Misfits, had one piece. Oh, and in 380, it seems that Rogues of Clahd have another.

Hmm… Weren’t you trying to get *away* from crossovers? Just have to have Hogan’s axe headed your way, is that it?

  12. Keybounce says:
    February 20, 2011 at 4:09 pm

Ahh. 403. So 600 years ago, Bodil had a run-in with Goddess Diana. And that was when “natural magic” declined.

… so that’s the entire main archive, since the graveyard before the crossover wars. Sheesh :-) .

… Ok, lets see if I have this correct. Bodil is opposed to the Goddess, and wants the armor. Nemi is aligned with the Goddess, and can find the armor, and wants to recover it. Goddess is responsible — via her wrath — for the lack of modern magic. And no one really knows if they should be supporting Nemi and the Goddess, or Bodil and oppose the Goddess.

Finally, the Editor, wants to stir things up by giving Bodil back her knowledge of what the Goddess has done.

Maybe just a few days have gone by, in PSI-time. A weekend we’ll say. Remember, I started this comic without planning or knowing what I was doing… so there’s a lot of continuity I’m trying to salvage.

Kerr was not meant to come out. Fes and Ernst were responsible for that happening, yes. Nemi likely didn’t know that Reevo was trying to get ONLY HER out at the time, because the only reason she was seal was to also seal Kerr. (one awakens the other, via the spell that sealed them.. no I haven;t gone into the past much). Nemi was likely way too distracted to see the big picture with that, but did find out that Fes’ crystal messed something up… Things happening so fast, etc, and…. I can admit the writting is a bit bad… IF YOU TAKE OUT THE CROSSOVER WARS, it doesn;t make that much sense, but soon after, in the Crossover Wars, she learns she’s a character, etc… kinda making it all not matter anyway. When I do the re-write for the print version I’ll work on that. But, as mentioned before, there will be some stuff coming into place, relative to this, somewhat soon.

Oh: Some of the comics at Fur Brigade are no longer available….

Fur Brigade… don;t worry about it… it got all sorts of screwed up. I posted a re-cap (kinda) in the Q&As…. I do want to stick-figure the rest of the missing story, to at least have it done, but.. yeah. I kinda discount that as an adventure of Fesworks where he got injured… I’ll have to look at it.

We don;t quite know what’s going on with her yet.

Hmm… Weren’t you trying to get *away* from crossovers? Just have to have Hogan’s axe headed your way, is that it?

These were already set-up…. and because they are with plot-devices, I must continue with them some how. I *am* trying to nix “webcomic crossovers” and “webcomic awareness” in exchange for “worlds”. the 4th wall stuff just doesn’t help me in my story right now, and confuses new readers… so, for the STORY comics, I will avoid breaking the 4th wall, but with the Side Strips, anything goes, esp with jokes I want to do, but they are archive-seperate.

I will say that some of what you said is right, and some of what you said is wrong. I will confirm that The Editor wanted to stir things up…. for reasons unknown.

I was wondering… what DPI and dimensions are the comics in before they are posted (like when you are still working on them). I am going to guess 300 DPI, as most comics I’ve seen, such as Last Res0rt, tend to use that resolution.

I’m not asking for any particular reason, just curious. This was one of the first questions to pop up in my head today.

  17. fesworks says:

I use 600 dpi and the size is actually for print (now, anyway).
