May decide to go to a different convention…

I’m considering switching which convention I’ll go to this year… Penguincon or Anthrocon…. I hightly doubt that I’ll be able to go to both. I *might* be able to go to both if I switch several days with a co-worker, and only show up for one day of Penguincon, but that’s very sketchy.

Both conventions are far away and will take two days for travel (12-14 hours away). I really do want to go to Anthrocon… but only if enough people I know and want to meet will be there. The thing is that Mark and Tanya, my co-hosts from The Webcomic Beacon podcast; and Jason and Trevor (of Ardra), will all be at Penguincon.

I already started my donationathon specifically for Anthrocon, so I don;t know if anyone is helping me out specifically to get to Anthrocon or not… So I wasn’t sure if it would be rude if I decided to go to Penguincon instead. I mean, I do really wanna go to Anthrocon, but it’s already possible that two peple I wanna meet may not be going… A big thing for me going out to conventions is to meet people I wouldn’t otherwise normally be able to meet.

So this is me thinking out loud and see what people thought?

    Penguicon… definitely Penguicon…

Have you and Mark and Tanya and Jason and Trevor met “face to face” before? Could be fun doing a live beacon, you know…

What Dave said. Also, see chatbox. And yes, Beacon Live MUST BE DONE if you all show up.

Sounds like Penguicon is practically turning into the TWCL Forums answer to the Comic Genesis Cookout. Groovy! w00t!

I met Fes at Geekcon in Wisconsin a couple years ago, but I’ve never met Trevor.

Basically, though, I’d offer refunds for anyone who donated specifically for you to go to Anthrocon, although I doubt if many people will mind. Hell, I might toss a few more bucks your way to go to Penguicon instead!

The thing is that Penguincon is a convention I have absolutely no interest in, of itself. Also a factor is how many people I know and/or want to see, will be at Anthrocon.

    My options include:

    (1) Anthrocon Only

    (2) One day of Penguincon and then Anthrocon (Not very likely)

    (3) Penguincon Only

    My options DON’T Include:

    (1) Both Cons.

    (2) Penguincon and then One day at Anthrocon.

But does Anthrocon have any webcomic related panels or such? Keep that in mind, too.

Webcomic specifically? I don’t know. Comic and art, highly likely. I’ve done a webcomic panel before as well.

As far as interests in Cons go, Anthrocon has a lot more draw than a Science Fiction and Open Source Programming convention :/

… no offense… I just need to weigh all of the pros, cons, and factors involved.

I understand. Really, other than the webcomic stuff, I’d be bored to tears at Penguicon, probably even more than I was with the non-webcomic/art stuff at Geekcon. At least they had the Chad Vader people. And Chad Vader > Wil Wheaton, no offense to ol’ Wesley. Sorry, Dave. :)

Best case scenario would be if you could show up for the last day of Penguicon, do some sort of live Beacon broadcast (which I think people would like, and it would be a great way to pimp the show to people who might not know about it otherwise), and then do Anthrocon later.

So, people with more money than I have, share some with Fes!

Actually, Day 1 would be the only day I could make it, most likely. Remember I work weekends.

Well, whichever day you’re there, you should do the live webcast thing. Assuming you can make it!
