PSI Updating Plan

Well, since October 23, 2009, P.S.I. has been updating three times a week on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule. Many of those were single panels because they were all originally drawn out to be pages (3 rows of strips). They seemed to work ok. The idea was that I opted for more updates a week, instead of just doing one page a week.

Now I’m getting to the point where I’m drawing new sketches and scripting a bit differently. This means that sometimes a single strip won’t make enough sense on it’s own. The plan is still to have at least three strips WORTH of content a week… it’s just sometimes I may have to skip an update. I have plans to make Double-Strips and Pages, in addition to the Strips I’ve already been doing. When I feel I need to do  these bigger comics, I’ll be updating only TWICE a week. It essentially gives me more time to work on the comic before it’s due.

So, basically:

If I update Monday, I’ll also update Wednesday and Friday.

If NO comic on Monday, then I’ll be updating Tuesday and Friday.

I feel good about the comic and my work so far. I hope to keep these updates coming so I can continue to work on my artistic skills! I will say that in addition to the PSI “Rewrite” (to make it stand-alone and manageable for print), there are plans to continue moving ahead with cameos and crossovers, as the webcomic has always been known for. Again, all cameos and crossovers will be more constructed to fit more inline with PSI’s story, so things don’t seem off-track. For the record, 90% of the happenings in the mall was designed to work with the story and plots I needed to use in P.S.I.

A little background about the women in PSI.

Originally, Jenny Everywhere and the Crossing Over Worlds was supposed to be a stand-alone comic that played in the background to the Crossover Wars…. what happened (and I tried to avoid it), is that it inadvertently became a “reverse spin-off” of PSI. If I planned it, it would have been a spin-off… but I didn’t.

I like to think of PSI as my “eternal experimental comic”, were I continue to learn about story telling. While I am improving on story telling (aside from right now because I need to tie up loose ends), PSI was ALWAYS intended to have cameos and crossovers whenever possible. The only think that WASN’T originally intended, was to have actual story.

I do intend to “rewrite” PSI into a sorta standalone story without the crossovers… Focusing on Fes, Ernst, and Nemi… essentially streamlining the first 300-some pages into something MUCH shorter. I want to focus on the underlying story I actually want to tell with Nemi. I’ll also have to make some new characters, or reassign/expand roles of existing characters, to fill in some gaps… especially to takeover cameos and crossover characters that had big impacts on the story itself.

Also, did you know that I came up with Nemi around Strip 40? It was in the beginning of the “Camping” Arc. I meant the whole Reevo and Nemi thing to happen much earlier than it did, but sadly it took until strip 120 before Nemi finally appeared. In the rewrite, she should show up much sooner.

PSI was originally about Fes and Ernst…. though I DID want a third character in there somewhere. I wanted a female character for a while, yes, but it was tough to think of how to go about it. I’ll let people in on a secret. Ultimately, PSI is indeed a “Fes and Ernst” comic…. but it’s not a two-main-character comic. It’s supposed to be a three-main-character-comic. Kinda like how Doctor Who almost always has a companion, or a “plus one”, that is how I see Fes and Ernst. PSI is “Fes and Ernst, Plus One”, and it’s typically a female. This will become more apparent in the future.

If anyone has any questions about PSI or its characters, please let me know! I hope to do more comics, based on questions, again. Like with the old FAQ arcs I did before.
